Police said it appears the person received a falsified invoice, which meant payment was made to an account not belonging to the company providing the work.
The matter was reported to police on March 6.
Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett encouraged people to “double check, or triple check” bank account details before making any payments.
He said you should contact the company or institution directly to check the details if you’re unsure.
