The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) will host the forum from 10am to 3pm at the Kerang Bowling Club as part of its Kerang Wetlands Ramsar project.
Project Manager Peter O’Toole said the forum would focus on pest animals that cause significant problems in the region.
“Whether you're a farmer, hunter, landholder or community member, this forum is for you,” he said.
“Experts will cover species such as rabbits, foxes, pigs, deer, cats and carp and what can be, or is being, done across the catchment.”
“There will also be an opportunity to talk to the experts, share your experiences and meet some of the local contractors and groups doing their bit to decrease the numbers of pest animals in the area.”
Mr O’Toole said the impacts of pests on farms was similar to that on our wetlands.
He highlighted the importance of Kerang and Gunbower Forest’s internationally recognised wetlands.
“There is no shortage of rabbits in the region and managing their impact on our precious wetlands is a real focus,” he said.
“Pigs have long been a problem in our region and at our wetlands, and we have started to see deer move in over the past few years.
“Dr Ivor Stuart will be discussing carp management and give us the latest on the carp virus. For more information, and to register, go to www.nccma.vic.gov.au/events
This forum is being funded by the Plains for Wanderers project, which is funded by the Federal Government’s National Heritage Trust and delivered by the North Central CMA, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.
