An Echuca dad is now more than $900,000 richer after being one of seven to win big in Saturday’s TattsLotto draw.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
On Monday this week The Lott put out a call when the prize still had not been claimed.
By Tuesday, the lucky Echuca man - who wishes to remain anonymous - had stepped forward.
“It’s been so nerve-wracking carrying around this unregistered ticket, I’ll definitely be registering any tickets from now on,” he said.
“I somewhat did know about the win, but I had to come to the newsagency to confirm it all.”
The man is looking forward to wiping his mortgage and supporting his adult children to own their first homes with the $919,034.33 prize money.
Meteor shower begins
Stargazers could be in for a treat in the coming weeks, with reports of the Perseid Meteor Shower being visible from now until August 24.
According to Space.com, it’s one of the best shooting star displays of the year.
Facebook page The Beautiful Planet says during the period, the Earth passes through the dust trail of Comet Swift–Tuttle, creating one of the brightest and most reliable meteor showers of the year.
“This year’s show promises golden meteors streaking across the night sky, especially after midnight when the sky is darkest,” the page says.
“Peak nights are around August 12–13, with up to 60 to 100 meteors per hour in dark, clear areas.
“Best viewing is anywhere away from city lights.”
Stoke talk next week
The return of the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee’s ‘Lifting Health Outcomes’ talks starts next week.
This time held in the evening to increase access to the community, Wednesday’s free talk will be on stroke and kidney disease.
It will cover signs and symptoms, what you can do to reduce your risk, and services available in the community.
Presenting on kidney health will be Deniliquin Hospital renal nurse unit manager Alana Tilders.
Covering the stroke information will be Rachelle Austin, who is a Deniliquin emergency department clinical nurse specialist and a Telestroke operator. She will also provide information on the life-saving Telestroke Service at Deniliquin Health Service.
The health talk will be hosted at the Deniliquin RSL Club between 5.30pm and 7pm, on July 23. There will be a short break between the two subjects, and tea and coffee will be provided.

Date correction
In Tuesday’s edition we provided information about an important anti-domestic violence event coming to Deniliquin, but there was an error regarding the date.
The Deniliquin Domestic Violence Liaison Committee will host ‘Hannah’s Story’ at the Deniliquin Town Hall on Tuesday, August 12 - not August 1 as previously reported.
It is presented by the Small Steps 4 Hannah foundation, formed after Hannah Clarke and her three children were murdered in 2020 by her estranged husband, Rowan Baxter.
The evening event, which will run from 6pm to 8pm, will feature Small Steps 4 Hannah DV prevention educator and former cricketer Michael Jeh as guest speaker.
While free to attend, bookings are requested for catering purposes. Go to https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1432310.
