Mayor Cheryl Cook was among those who voted for the change saying her view was informed by many conversations she’d had with residents and very strong feedback that council should seek a more unified culture.
This week Cr Cook said she anticipated that removing flags from the council chambers and flag poles around the shire would invariably be a contentious issue for the community.
“I must note that Council is receiving, in equal measure, both heartfelt support and robust, emotive feedback regarding the proposed amendments,” she said.
“Council is committed to considering all perspectives.
"My definitive view, and indeed the Council’s final determination, will only be established after the formal public submission process is fully completed.
“Council is approaching this process with due diligence."
Cr Cook said the totality of responses received from all sides of the important discussion would be weighed and carefully considered by herself and the councillors with a final determination on her personal position made at the appropriate juncture, following the due process.
"I warmly encourage every member of our community, and all interested stakeholders, to take this final opportunity to have their voices heard on the proposed protocols,” she said.
“Your perspective is invaluable to the Council's decision-making process.
“Please ensure your formal submission reaches us before the 5pm deadline on December 24th, 2025.
“We look forward to receiving your thoughtful input."
