Kyabram District Health Service has welcomed a generous five-figure donation from the Men’s Longest Lunch.

It was all smiles at KDHS on Wednesday, March 27, as staff members celebrated receiving the $25,000 cheque under beautiful blue skies and with a sizzling barbecue you could smell from the parking lot.
The Men’s Longest Lunch was held on February 23 at the Kyabram Recreation Reserve and raised $25,000 with the help of guest appearances from former Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum, ‘The Suburban Footballer’ Tom Siegert and media personality Brad McEwan, and auction items donated by sponsors, which even included a trip to Fiji.
The Kyabram Men’s Longest Lunch is one of many men’s lunch organisations that participate in raising money and awareness for different causes, but chairman Nick Curnow was pleased with the success of the day and thankful for the sponsors and attendees.
“It’s very pleasing for the committee, for us all involved, that we can raise that sort of money and give it to such a good cause, and to our local hospital,” Mr Curnow said.
“It’s an intimate lunch, with under 200 people, but it has been very, very successful.
“We pretty much sell out every year, as soon as we announce it — so that’s sort of proof in the pudding.”

KDHS primary health manager Ash Watson was thankful for the ongoing support from the Men’s Longest Lunch, having been partnered with it for nearly 10 years.
“We’re very grateful for the current men’s lunch committee for the donation,” Mr Watson said.
“It’s a great deal of money, and it’s going to go back into the Kyabram community for men’s health and men’s health promotion.”
The cheque was handed over to KDHS board chair Chris Motton and chief executive Anne McEvoy, with the help of committee members from the Men’s Longest Lunch, including Nick Curnow, Justin Barnett, Tony Hansen and Andrew Douglas.
Mr Motton and Ms McEvoy addressed the assembled staff members and thanked the Men’s Longest Lunch committee members for their efforts.
“As a health service, we’re very grateful for the generous donation from the Men’s Longest Lunch committee,” Mr Motton said.
“These funds go towards our health promotion programs, which also focus on men’s health in the Kyabram community.”
