Mrs Milthorpe welcomed the endorsement from Ms Haines and Mr Pocock saying they have “a proven track record of strong, principled advocacy and community-led representation”.
She said the endorsement reinforced growing momentum for community-driven, independent voices in Parliament.
“People want representatives who are present, accountable and prepared to fight for them,” she said.
“That is what independence allows, and that is the kind of representation Farrer deserves.”
“Independence gives me the freedom to do exactly that, without following party lines, and without compromise.
“Helen Haines and David Pocock have demonstrated what effective independent representation looks like.”
She was however clear that endorsement did not mean agreement on every issue, or a promise to agree on everything instead saying it was an endorsement that party politics no longer served regional Australian communities.
“Real representation can only happen when you are free to assess every issue on its merits,” Mrs Milthorpe.
“Regional electorates like Farrer don’t fit neatly into party talking points.
“Our communities are diverse, practical and deeply affected by decisions made far away.”
