The National Party has launched the plan for regional Victoria to receive 25 per cent of all new infrastructure spending if elected in November.
“Regional Victorians make up 25 per cent of Victoria’s population, so they should receive 25 per cent of the funding,” Nationals state leader Danny O’Brien said.
Regional Victoria currently receives less than 12 per cent of infrastructure spending.
The plan includes $5 billion over four years to repair and rebuild roads, 3000 additional police and reopening more than 40 closed or reduced hours police stations and stronger bail and sentencing laws.
The Nationals would also scrap the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund, abolish stamp duty for first home buyers on properties up to $1 million and restore the $300,000 land tax-free threshold.
The party would also attempt to attract more healthcare workers to the regions through a $10,000 incentive payment for workers who agree to relocate, modelled on a successful program in NSW.
“It’s my community, it’s my home, I’ve always been advocating for regional Victoria,” Mr Sali said.
“The Shepparton District needs safer roads, better access to healthcare and the infrastructure required to support our growing communities.
“I will fight to make sure our region gets its fair share and that we get the job done.”
