Mr Boyd takes over from Kim Gregg on January 12 and says he is well aware of the struggling club’s financial position, which showed a loss of $908,000 for the 12 months to September 2025.
The 34-year-old chartered accountant, who lives in Albury, has been finance officer one day a week at Corowa for the past 18 months and will increase his presence to a minimum three days a week.
At Corowa Golf Club’s Annual General Meeting on December 17, Mr Boyd heard many suggestions by members towards improving the club’s bottom line.
“I was impressed with the passion of members tonight,” he said.
“We will seriously consider the suggestions; I know the challenge and I’m looking forward to the job.”
Club president Debra Eason said Mr Boyd had a strong background as a tax agent and contract accountant with board roles at Westmont Aged Care and Albury Wodonga Health.
“Ash has recently led the charge in our finance systems, improvements as to reporting and implemented the first stages of comprehensive budgeting for the club,” Ms Eason said.
“Our board has considered this expertise imperative to ensure our sustainability considering the current fiscal environment.”
The job has been “a heck of a challenge” according to outgoing general manager, Kim Gregg.
Reflecting on her role since March 2023, she said it was a complex business with a lot of hidden costs, which is a problem.
“We need increased patronage; our focus is for a quality 18 hole course,” she said.
“We’ve improved with kitchen management and functions, and internal club house improvements with gaming and sports bar areas.
“Overall, the board has been amazing to stay strong, and they’ve worked through tough situations.”
Ms Eason said Kim had worked tirelessly to improve many facets of the organisation, including a positive, supporting relationship with Pannam to improve the club’s food offering, improved governance with policies, upgrades around the course and main building and community relationships.
“We express our thanks and gratitude to Kim for all she has achieved,” Ms Eason said.
“Corowa Golf Club has 34 accommodation units and a championship course.
“Ash doesn’t play golf regularly and his handicap is in the 30s.
“It may have to stay that way for a while, until he and the board set about improving the plight of the club.”
