New principal welcomed at Oaklands

Oaklands Central School has welcomed first-time principal Josh Webb with open arms as school returned across the region last week.

Mr Webb joins the tight-knit rural community after relocating from a deputy principal position at Macintyre High School, Inverell in northern NSW.

Oaklands Central School currently has around 70 students enrolled who come from surrounding township and farms.

Mr Webb said the Oaklands community had been very welcoming and friendly as new and returning students began Term 1 last week.

“The community has been very supportive! The school is lovely and vey well kept and the staff have been terrific,” he said.

“The students are very polite and respectful towards me which is just great!

“This week we have swim school going and they are taking to it really well. It’s been really good so far.”

Mr Webb said it was a big change coming from a high school of over 500 students to now leading a small school from years K-12.

“It’s a very different scenario with primary school kids in the mix but they have all been really fantastic,” he said.

“It’s a new challenge and it’s been great so far. I’m really look forward to the journey ahead.”
