Speak Up has been a major advocate for improved water policy and management since its inception in 2015. It highlights the important role water plays in food production and rural communities, including the positive economic and ecological outcomes from irrigated agriculture.
Its annual general meeting will be held on Sunday, February 13, from 11am at a venue still to be determined.
Lachlan Marshall, who was recently elected as a shareholder director to the board of Murray Irrigation Ltd, will step down as chair of Speak Up at the AGM, but has indicated he is happy to remain on the committee.
“We will need a new chair and are hoping to get some fresh faces on the committee,” Mr Marshall said.
I would encourage everyone who wants prosperous communities in our region to visit our website, www.speakup4water.com, and join or renew their membership.
“I also invite anyone interested in the role of Speak Up to attend the AGM,” Mr Marshall concluded.
Anyone wishing to attend the AGM is asked to contact speakup4water@gmail.com to stay informed about venue or online options.
Emergency service thanks
Rochester resident Linda Neilson has sent out a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services who attended a recent death of a sick friend at her home.
“A friend of ours passed away on January 4, at our home,” she said.
“I called the ambulance and they came immediately, to start working on him.
“Then the police were called.”
Mrs Neilson, who lived on Railway Rd, said the police officers, ambulance officers and Father Ashley Caldow were so wonderful, caring and compassionate that she was moved to recognise their efforts.
"There were four or five constables and a chief sergeant. He (Peter Rafferty) was dying with cancer and in the end, died peacefully,“ she said.
“The entire emergency service team were such lovely people, and caring.”
Mr Rafferty had gone to the house to spend his final days with the family three weeks ago.
