His plaque has now been added to the Carpe Diem wall in the Corowa High School front office.
The aim of the Corowa High School Carpe Diem award is to acknowledge past students of Corowa High School who have gone on in life to be positive role models to current students.
To be eligible to be inducted in the award you must be an ex-student of Corowa High School (since 1968) who has ‘seized the day’ by making a positive contribution to the community.
Neville commenced high school in 1968 – the year the new school was opened at its present location. He left to commence a plumbing apprenticeship during Year 12 in 1973. Neville completed his apprenticeship with his employer Alan Smith and worked as an employee for Corowa Plumbing before commencing his own business in 1980.
Over the 38 years that Neville has been in the plumbing business, he has trained 13 local apprentices to their full qualification and is currently training a 14th who is in his first year.
Neville has always had a strong commitment in helping local youth. He has also felt a need to help struggling families buy providing pro bono work for hot water installations and he has also helped community organisations including the Men’s Shed and the Tree of Life Community Garden.
Neville has worked hard over the years to develop the business to where it is today and his son Luke is developing it into the future.
As well as being a father of five children, Neville also found time over the years to contribute to the community. He has been a member of the Wahgunyah Rowing Club over the last 40 years where he rowed, coached and worked on the executive committee.
He was also a player and president of Wahgunyah Football Club, cub leader for scouts and worked on committees such as the Murray Rowing Association, Corowa High School Council and the Wahgunyah Willows Committee. Neville was also instrumental in developing Rowers Park and donating his labour for the plumbing of the public toilet block and roofing the Apex Rotunda.
Neville’s dedication and volunteerism continues to inspire local students and support the growth of the community.
