Due to increased popularity, the Yarrawonga Pickleball Club will return on Wednesday, July 16 after playing its final session for the term last week.
Each Wednesday night for eight weeks, more than 20 people aged between 20 and 70, enjoyed quick round-robin matches in beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
With a new 10-week term less than a month away, Yarrawonga Tennis Club coach Greg Duns is encouraging more people to give the sport a go.
“It is very social, which ticks a lot of boxes for people,” Greg said.
“The sport caters to everyone’s skill and fitness levels.
“It’s popular and suitable for all ages, because it isn't too physically demanding.”
Pickleball is made up of different elements from table tennis, badminton and tennis, which are combined and played on a court a quarter the size of a tennis court.
As demand increases globally, Greg said with more players, the region could soon begin a tournament.
“If we get enough numbers, the pickleball club is looking to get a tournament going, comprised of teams across different divisions” Greg said.
The sport has experienced a major increase in popularity with more than 50 million players globally.
