The fundraiser’s date is yet to be confirmed, but initial details have been released to give participants an idea of what to expect on the day and to garner support.
Play for a Purpose will give golfers the chance to play at Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
The day will kick off with an 8:00am shotgun start and entry includes 18 holes of golf on the Peninsula Kingswood south course.
A light lunch will be included, with guest speakers throughout, and participation supports the future of Corowa Golf Club.
“I’m a member of Peninsula Kingswood down near Melbourne,” Marcus Fraser said.
“They’ve given me their golf course for a day to run a corporate event.
“All the money from that day will be donated to the Corowa Golf Club to go towards keeping the doors open and working towards a plan to keep things moving forward.”
Tickets for the event are $475 per person, or $1,900 per team of four, with a maximum of 100 places available, and will go on sale when a date can be confirmed.
Mr Fraser is also working towards organizing a golf play-off featuring former Australian test captain Ricky Ponting at Corowa golf course.
Details for this day have not been confirmed, but TheFree Press understands that it will be a ticketed event to raise further funds.
Pro golfer Marcus Fraser and former Australian cricket test captain, Ricky Ponting have committed to helping Corowa golf course find its way back.
Club members have set up the Corowa Golf Club Community page on Facebook to share updates, encourage community involvement and support fundraising efforts.
According to them, this is more than just a round of golf – it’s a chance to stand behind a community asset that means so much to so many.
“This course is more than fairways and greens,” the page says.
“It’s friendships, junior sport, local jobs, weekend routines and decades of community history.”
The community focused page is calling on volunteers to donate time towards course maintenance, general upkeep, administration, fundraising, or to simply help where needed.
“Even one hour can make a difference,” the page says.
“This is our course, our community, our opportunity to step up.”
Corowa Golf Club will hold a members and public information session at 7pm on Thursday night with further updates.
Limited packaged product will be available for purchase from the bar.
