For the past few years, Oaklands community has not had a local pre-school service due to low enrolment numbers but now Federation Council has called for expressions of interest from the northern communities to see if the demand is there.
General manager, Adrian Butler said it was a proactive effort to ensure all children in the area have access to high-quality early childhood education, and a vital first step in assessing the viability of a service.
“With growing families in the region, Council is now actively investigating whether demand has increased,” Mr Butler said.
“The outcome of this Expression of Interest will be crucial in determining our next steps.
“We encourage all families in the northern communities with young children to complete the EOI to help us understand the level of interest and plan accordingly.
“This is a chance for the community to have a direct say in the future of early childhood education in Oaklands.”
While a physical preschool has not been operational in Oaklands for some time, council has maintained a mobile preschool service four days a week, which provides transport for children from Rand, Boree Creek, Urana, Daysdale, and Oaklands.
“It ensures every child in the Oaklands community has access to 15 hours of preschool education,” Mr Butler said.
“The numbers have been consistent and growing.”
