The group held a quilt show over the Easter long weekend and raised $2,500 through a raffle, with the proceeds going directly to the Good Friday Appeal.
Local area manager of the Corowa Wahgunyah Good Friday Appeal Karie Playford expressed her gratitude for the Corowa Quilters' donation after receiving a cheque late last month.
"It also gives me great pleasure to report that the final tally for Corowa Wahgunyah for the 2023 Appeal is $123,101.48," Mrs Playford said.
She also acknowledged the additional contribution of $3,254 from Woolworths Corowa, which was raised through various fundraising activities held by the store throughout the year and emphasised the significance of donations from community groups such as the Corowa & District Car Club, who unexpectedly approached the Good Friday Appeal to contribute to the local fundraising efforts.
"What is incredible about these donations is that they come from small community groups who have to fundraise for their own operational needs," she said.
"It is really humbling that these groups and their members are more than willing to offer their time, efforts, and funds to support the Good Friday Appeal when they could instead be putting that money into their own organisations."
The Good Friday Appeal, an annual fundraising event held in Australia, aims to raise funds for the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. The funds support medical research, equipment purchases, and patient and family support programs.
The Corowa Quilters' quilt show attracted a large number of visitors over the Easter long weekend, and the winners of their raffle were announced. Rosemary Ward was the lucky recipient of the first prize, followed by May Houlihan in second place, Angela Piercy in third, and Anna Martin in fourth.
