Reel in funds for fishing projects

The next round of Recreational Fishing Trust funding is now open for applications from fishing clubs and community groups, focusing on recreational fishing education projects and fishing infrastructure and access.

Funding is available for recreational fishing education projects valued at up to $10,000 per application, while grants of up to $50,000 per application are available for fishing infrastructure and access projects.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development deputy secretary fisheries and forestry Tara Black said a 2024 survey of recreational fishing licence fee holders identified these areas as key priorities for investment.

“Every year fishers pay their licence fees, and every single dollar is placed into the Recreational Fishing Trusts and used to improve recreational fishing in New South Wales for the benefit of the state's recreational fishers,'' Ms Black said.

“Through these grants, the New South Wales Government is putting fishing licence fees to work, ensuring the popularity of fishing continues to grow for young and old alike, and providing better access and facilities for the angling community.”

Eligible projects include fishing workshops, schools education, fishing platforms, fish cleaning facilities, kayak launching platforms and fishing access tracks.
