The rising star bowler, originally from Balldale, was first introduced to lawn bowls by his grandfather at 10 years of age, becoming a member of the Corowa Civic Bowls Club.
Since then, he has worked his way up from through the ranks of pennant competition to represent the club on several occasions.
“Over the last few years, my love of lawn bowls has turned from a recreational sport to a passion. I have been fortunate enough to be a representative of my club and region on a number of occasions,” the 22-year-old said.
“Lawn bowls is for everyone. There are no limits on who can play. That’s what makes it a great sport.”
Some of Thoma’s accolades include representing the under 18 squad at regional and state level, state junior representative in 2016, Ovens & Murray regional representative in 2017, Club pairs winner in 2019 and singles winner in Yackandandah earlier this year.
“I always looked as bowls as a bit of fun, I never thought I would be putting myself out there and competing or having any success,” Thomas said.
Currently, Thomas is a contracted Victorian Premier League Player for the 2021/22 season. He also recently had the chance to play alongside some elite Victorian lawn bowls players which further proved he was on right path to success.
As Thomas goes from strength to strength, he is seeking sponsorship from the local community to help him on his lawn bowls career.
“I have the opportunity to compete in the Australian Open Bowls Tournament in Queensland amongst the top groups of players around the country and would appreciate the support of anyone who can help me get there,” he said.
“In order to help me achieve my dream to compete in lawn bowls at an elite level, I am asking for support to help fund my kit, travel and accommodation.”
It would seem this is only the start of an extraordinary lawn bowls career for the young champion. If any business or organisation would like to support Thomas, he can be contacted by phone on 0497 132 099.
