Originally scheduled for December 2, the concert will bring a mix of soulful tunes and community spirit from 4pm to 8pm.
Part of the North of the Murray Event Series, a community initiative funded by the NSW State Government, the free concert aims to reinvigorate local communities, extend summer festivities, and boost tourism in the region, all while celebrating the power of live music.
Headlining the event is the multi-award-winning artist, Benny Walker. Hailing from Echuca and proud Yorta Yorta man, Walker’s unique blend of killer vocals and epic storytelling has earned him accolades and recognition across the country. His recent chart-toppers “SAVE” and “Oh No You Don’t” have solidified his place in the music scene, making him a name to watch.
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Corowa and sharing my new music from the Chosen Line album. It’s always a pleasure to connect with new audiences and bring people together through music,” Walker shared with the Free Press.
Walker, whose musical journey began at the age of eight, comes from a family deeply rooted in music.
“Both my grandfathers played in bands, so did my father. I started writing my own music in late high school, and a few years later, I was doing gigs and touring,” he revealed.
Known for collaborating with some of Australia’s finest artists, including Archie Roach, Alex Lloyd, Blue King Brown, and Tim Rogers, Benny Walker has also taken his talents beyond Australian borders, touring Canada three times.
In addition to Walker’s headlining act, the concert will showcase a lineup of local talent, enhancing the community spirit of the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring family and friends, along with picnic blankets, to enjoy a night of rocking tunes by the river.
“We are thrilled to offer these events to the community, and I encourage all residents and visitors to join us in these festivities,” Mayor Pat Bourke said.
With food trucks offering culinary delights and children’s activities adding a family-friendly touch, the Rock on the River concert promises an unforgettable evening for all.
Residents and visitors gearing up for the concert this Saturday are reminded to be mindful of alcohol consumption regulations.
“Police will be out in full force, patrolling and focusing on alcohol consumption outside of the designated venue areas,” Corowa Sergeant Stephen Marshall said.
“This is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees. We encourage everyone to have a fantastic time at the event while respecting the laws in place.”
