Since the Year 2000, Sandi has been the dynamo behind Giftwrap, a shop containing gifts and homewares.
It’s a business she simultaneously ran while still managing Sandi’s Hairdressing next door - a business formerly known as Sue’s Hairdressing - in 1982.
She sold the hairdressing salon in 2010 but bought Shine Boutique (formerly Michelle’s Boutique), a dress shop, which she managed for five years, to 2015.
With the two shops about 200 metres apart, it was no trouble for Sandi to commute. “I had a scooter! I used to scoot between the shops,” she told The Free Press.
Of her calling it a day, Sandi said: “It’s a bit sad. I’ll miss all the wonderful customers and because I love what I did.”
Reflecting on her hairdressing business nearly four decades ago, Sandi said there were three hairdressers in Corowa.
“There are eight or nine now,” she said. “I had seven or eight staff at times, and numerous apprentices. Most have got their own businesses.”
After moving from Condobolin to Corowa in 1982, Sandi has been “an active member of everything” according to former 18-year-president of Corowa Business Chamber, Craig Spencer.
“From her hairdressing days through to the last five or six, Sandi’s always promoted Corowa, and been most welcome to locals and visitors to town,” he said.
“She’s been an amazing employer, had lots of girls, her commitment to town is very good. She’s pro-active, lively and vibrant, and always looks on the brighter side.”
Sandi expressed a big thank you to all of her loyal customers over the years and wishes new managers of Giftwrap, Terry and Grace all the best.
Last but not least, she thanks her long-time partner, Barrie, the CEO of the Corowa Hospital from 1982 to 1984, for all of his support.
In retirement, Sandi will complete some unfinished paintings in oil and acrylics, attend to her garden and go travelling with Barrie.
