The public callout is the first stage of a new regional campaign exploring the traditions and experiences that have made the Murray region part of people’s lives.
Murray Regional Tourism is particularly interested in hearing from families and groups who returned (or continue to return) to the same place over many years, as well as operators who’ve welcomed generations of loyal guests.
That could be the annual camping trip, a long-running fishing weekend, summers at the same caravan park, a houseboat tradition or a family photograph recreated year after year.
Historic holiday photographs, home videos, postcards, brochures and other tourism material are also being sought.
Murray Regional Tourism CEO Cameron Sutton said the consumer campaign would run under the organisation’s Visit the Murray brand and be shaped by the people who know the region best.
“Many people don’t visit The Murray just once. They return to the same towns, parks, stretches of river and holiday rituals over decades,” Mr Sutton said.
“We want to find the stories behind those traditions including the everyday moments families still talk about years later.”
People do not need to submit a polished story or have old material digitised. They can simply share what they remember, describe what they have or introduce Murray Regional Tourism to someone with a story worth exploring.
“We know there are photographs tucked away in albums, footage stored in cupboards and stories passed down through families, alongside more recent memories captured on phones,” Mr Sutton said.
“This is an opportunity to share some of that history and encourage people to continue those annual holiday traditions in our region.”
Selected stories and material may be developed into campaign content ahead of the official launch later this year.
Stories can be submitted at visitthemurray.com.au.
Submissions close Friday 7 August.
