Sergeant assures police are accessible

Corowa Sergeant Stephen Marshall stressed that police are accessible despite covering a large distance.

Corowa Police are emphasising their commitment to public safety as Sergeant Stephen Marshall urges residents to remember that the police are readily available despite the challenges posed by covering a vast area.

In addition to Corowa itself, the local police also oversee Mulwala, Urana, Oaklands, Howlong and the surrounding regions, necessitating long distances to be covered in their patrols.

“We want to remind everyone in Corowa and the surrounding areas that the police are accessible at any time, but we do face challenges in covering a large geographical area,” Sergeant Marshall said.

“There is always someone on duty, ensuring that assistance is accessible to the community around the clock.

Due to the wide coverage area, response times may vary depending on the urgency of the situation.

“For life-threatening emergencies or situations where immediate safety is at risk, residents are reminded to dial triple zero (000).

“We have lock up keepers in Corowa, Mulwala, Howlong and Urana that are available to be called out 24 hours a day.

“To handle less urgent matters such as property damage residents are advised to call 131 444. This number connects individuals with the local police station and allows them to report incidents that do not pose an immediate threat.

“However, if the station is unattended when a call is made, the line will be automatically redirected to the nearby Albury station.

“If you call the station directly, and no one answers, hold the line for a while and it will redirect to Albury.”

Sergeant Marshall also highlighted the convenience of using the online police portal which creates a digital record of reported incidents.

“Even if officers are not present at the station, these reports generate a job on our station summary for the police when they return, ensuring that every incident is properly investigated,” he said.

Considering the demands on the Corowa Police, Sergeant Marshall acknowledged that they are operating at near capacity. As a visible sign of their presence, residents are encouraged to look for a parked police vehicle outside the station, indicating that an officer is on duty inside.
