The two-day training was packed with hands-on scenarios and practical exercises designed to test participants’ teamwork, knowledge, and technical rescue skills.
Under the guidance of experienced trainers, members worked through a range of simulated rescue situations, strengthening their confidence and capability to respond safely and effectively to real-life emergencies.
Courses like PIRO play a vital role in preparing SES volunteers to assist the community during times of need.
Tocumwal SES members expressed their gratitude to the dedicated training officers and assessors who generously gave their time to travel to Tocumwal and support the development of local and visiting members.
To join the SES, please visit https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer to apply or for more information, head along to a Tocumwal SES training session at 7.30pm on Monday nights at the station on 1-3 Jerilderie St on a fortnightly basis, or in Cobram on alternate weeks.

The Tocumwal War Memorial Hall Committee of Management held its annual general meeting on Wednesday, August 13 with representatives from Berrigan Shire Council in attendance, including Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean, Michelle Koopman, and Joey Cleven.
Mayor Cornwell McKean chaired the nomination of office bearers for the coming year, during which all current members were re-elected unopposed. Colin Jones remains as president, Margaret Close continues as secretary, and Sue Braybon as treasurer, with committee members Betsy Bird, Peter Bird, Lynsie Reid, Denise Baldwin, and Anne Jones also returning.
President Colin Jones delivered a report highlighting the committee’s significant achievements over the past two years.
The hall has undergone extensive upgrades, including a refreshed façade, new tiled front steps, reinstatement of the original doors, replacement of front windows, and important interior repairs.
These improvements were made possible through the dedication of the small committee, strong support from the local community, and funding from the NSW Veterans Affairs Saluting Their Service program.
Further enhancements are planned in the coming year to improve comfort and accessibility for all hall users.
The Tocumwal War Memorial Hall remains an ideal venue for weddings, parties, community gatherings, and other special events.
With its historic charm, flexible spaces, and welcoming atmosphere, it provides a unique setting enriched by heritage features, including original World War I honour rolls and architectural character that add depth and meaning to any occasion.
The hall is available for hire and the committee encourages the public to visit, explore the space, and consider it for their next event. For bookings and further information, contact the committee via email to tocumwalwmhall@gmail.com.

The Tocumwal Rotary Club has recently unveiled a new National Memorial WAAAF Creek Walk brochure, designed to highlight Tocumwal’s significant wartime heritage sites.
Created by Sivonne Creative, who was also the artistic lead for the Creek Walk signage, the brochure was developed with input from Rotary members and aims to enhance the experience for visitors while raising awareness of the role the WAAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force) played during World War II.
The project cost the club about $2500 and copies of the brochure are available from the Tocumwal Tourist Information Centre.

It is sad to hear of the passing of former Tocumwal resident, Ronald Myers, who passed away in Calliope, Queensland, on August 23.
Ron grew up in Tocumwal and remained a well-known member of the local community until 1980, when he and his wife Elise (Elsie) relocated to Albury, and later to Calliope. He was a familiar face across the region through his long-time work with Tocumwal Cordials, delivering soft drinks to homes, farms, and businesses throughout the area, including as far as Coleambally and Jerilderie.
A keen sportsman, Ron enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and badminton during his years in Tocumwal.
He had been in care for some time and was looking forward to celebrating his 80th birthday in November, but sadly passed away following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife Elise (Elsie), children Peter and Leah, Chris and Belinda, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his brother Geoffrey. His funeral was held in Calliope yesterday, September 2.
