Lesley, the author of the series, and Pam the illustrator, have created "Mia and Milo's Magical Adventures" and the "Down in the..." series.
“I’ve always had a dream to write children’s books,” Lesley, who has a background in farming and flower growing, told the Free Press.
“I used to write poems and things like that. Once I retired, it was my sister who encouraged me to do it.”
Pam’s graphic artist skills came in handy for Lesley’s vision.
“I completed a digital artistry course around seven years ago and joined a photo artistic group which is a friendly group of very talented and supportive artists,” she said.
“It’s been a lot of fun learning these skills and being able to use them in my sister’s books. We are both very creative in our own way.
“Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with her crazy imagination. So much goes into digital art so there is quite a process to make it work.”
“Mia and Milo's Magical Adventures," includes eight books and tells the story of two adventurous frogs who go on magical journeys. The second series, "Down in the...," is aimed at younger children and currently has two books in the series, "Down in the Barn" and "Down in the Garden."
"Mia and Milo's Magical Adventures" follows the adventures of two lovable frogs, Mia and Milo. The series comprises of eight books that take readers on a magical journey with the two amphibians as they explore the enchanting world around them.
The stories are filled with wonder and magic, making them a great way to ignite a child's imagination and creativity, exploring themes such as friendship, perseverance, and determination in a fun and engaging way. Each book offers a different adventure that takes Mia and Milo to exciting new places, such as under the sea or a secret garden.
“We want to bring magic and adventure back into children’s lives,” Lesley said.
“The books go through a testing stage with my grandchildren. If they love them, then we know we are on the right track.”
Pam’s illustrations bring the stories to life, capturing the whimsy and magic of each adventure perfectly. The digital artworks are unique and full of detail, making them a perfect complement to Lesley’s storytelling.
The series is suitable for children of all ages, making it a great option for bedtime reading or for use in the classroom. The books offer a great way for children to explore the world of fiction, and with so many adventures to choose from, they are sure to find a story that resonates with them.
The “Down in the…” stories are simple, fun, and engaging, making them a perfect option for children who are just beginning to explore the world of reading.
Both books explore themes that are relevant to younger children, such as friendship, sharing, and learning new things. They also introduce children to new concepts and ideas, such as different animals and the various plants found in a garden.
Since being released late last year, both book series have already received great reviews from parents, teachers and children alike, with many praising the charming digital illustrations and engaging stories.
To the sisters’ surprise, the books have also engaged readers worldwide including France, Poland and Germany.
Lesley and Pam are thrilled with the success of their books and have plans for more stories to come.
“It’s amazing being able to do this together. We’ve got a few more ideas in the pipeline,” Lesley said.
