Two stalwarts of Coreen NSW Rural Fire Service Southern Border Team, Jim Sandral and Peter (Candles) Carroll, have been formally recognised for their 60 years of service.

Operational Officer Bortolazzo said it was a pleasure to be able to recognise Jim and Candles with the presentation of their medals, recognising their over 60 years of service.
He told each one: “This is a great achievement, and we are grateful of the time and commitment that you have given your local brigades, community members and the RFS overall.”
Jim’s RFS Long Service Medal was presented at the Corowa Hospital Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 22 in front of his family, friends and other residents who attended.
Jim commenced in 1949 when he was 16 in the Coreen farming community and held the rank of Operational Fire Fighter from 1949 to 2020 and then moved to an Operational Support role from 2020 to 2024. He received his 60yr long service medal with Clasps.

Peter’s RFS Long Service Medal was presented at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He commenced around 1960 at Carreen and held the rank of Operational Fire Fighter from 1960 to 2020 and then moved to an Operational Reserve role from 2020 to 2024. Peter received his 60yr long service medal with Clasps.
Six decades plus of fire safety work is an outstanding achievement by Jim and Candles who derived a lot of satisfaction in protecting their community.
