But even more important was the continued support for local mental health advocate Daniel Hateley with his ‘The Fight is Real’ initiative.
The packed venue saw renowned Australian rock band Birds of Tokyo take to the stage with a truly engaging, high-energy performance that had the crowd on their feet singing and dancing their hearts out.
It was a sell-out concert series at Club Corowa on Friday evening.
Backing up Birds of Tokyo were artists Empress + Aces and DJ Verse@ille.
All three acts provided a night of amazing live music and entertainment with people coming together for a great cause, raising funds for Black Dog Institute.
“Our Concert Series continues to be a hit amongst locals while bringing visitors to our region,” Club Corowa CEO Peter Norris said.
Empress + Aces provided the perfect support act, performing some great hard rock hits.
“Unforgettable experiences of big acts and live music with amazing artists never before seen in our community.
“A fantastic opportunity for our community to come together for an unforgettable night of music while contributing to a meaningful cause,” Mr Norris said.
DJ Verse@ille’s slick performance entertained the audience at the start of the evening.
Local mental health advocate Daniel Hateley was amazed at the support for his cause and how well the concert went.
“The only word I can think of to describe last night is insane,” Daniel stated on his ‘The Fight is Real’ Facebook page.
“To think back to how my mental health used to be and how much I struggled in silence hiding away from the world, to now being on the other side of my struggles trying to change the way the world views mental health!
“I knew last night was going to be epic, but I was not prepared for the emotions that followed through.
“To be included in such an amazing event with my all-time favourite band, it’s truly an honour and has made my life.”
During the evening Daniel and his loyal volunteers sold limited edition merchandise, such as t-shirts, stubby holders, wristbands, and keyrings, with all proceeds going to the Black Dog Institute.
Furthermore, Club Corowa committed to donating a portion of every concert ticket sale to the cause and Birds of Tokyo lead singer Ian Kenny announced during their performance that they would also donate half the sales of their own merchandise on the night to the cause.
Fresh from his success in 2023, where he raised $11,000 for the BDI, Daniel’s motivation for this campaign is deeply personal, stemming from his own mental health experiences.
“To Pete and Carly from Club Corowa, words will never be enough to explain how grateful I am for everything you have done,” Daniel wrote on his Facebook page.
“This is more than just a concert, more than just ‘The Fight Is Real’; you have genuinely made my dreams come true.
“To have your support behind something so deeply personal to myself is something I’ll never forget.
“Also, to all the Club Corowa staff, RoundBox Events, Birds of Tokyo, Empress + Aces, DJ Verse@ille and all the behind-the-scenes crew who helped with this event, you are all absolute legends.”
The final amount fundraised had not been confirmed by the club before the Free Press went to print but will be published in next week’s edition.
