On the morning of October 12, a 15-year-old youth presented to Albury Police station with his mother.
He was arrested and later charged with break and enter and motor vehicle offences across the Murray River Police District, including Howlong and Jindera.
He has appeared in Albury Children’s Court where he was granted bail under strict conditions.
The youth was one of five people, all believed to be under 18, who broke into the Howlong Post Office and bakery on October 1.
The intruders all wore masks and did an estimated $25,000 damage before being confronted by the baker.
Sgt Steve Marshall from Corowa Police said investigations were ongoing and he expected more arrests in the near future.
From Saturday this week, Corowa Police Constable Rory McNamara will be stationed at Howlong ensuring a continual police presence in the town.
Sgt Marshall said Const McNamara would take on-call duties for the next two weeks which means if things happen outside of normal rostered hours, he will be available to be called out if there is an urgent and pressing need.
After two weeks, he will switch with Constable Belinda Deller who, like Const McNamara, is a Howlong resident
“The rotation will continue until a permanent officer is appointed to the Howlong lockup keeper role,” Sgt Marshall said.
Howlong residents who wish to meet with Sgt Marshall, as well as senior officers from the Murray River Police District, Federation mayor Cheryl Cook and Cr Sue Wearne can do so tomorrow afternoon.
Police will conduct Coffee with a Cop outside Howlong Bakery from 1.00-2.30pm on October 16 to address and concerns and answer questions from locals.
