The incident occurred on Dominion Road in the industrial state, following a night of drizzling rain that left the road wet and greasy.
The young driver, operating a Toyota Aurion sedan, was accompanied by a 17-year-old male passenger in the front seat and a 15-year-old female passenger in the rear.
The group were travelling southbound, crossing Santos Road and continuing into Pilbara Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The car collided with the front driver's side wheel of a parked semi-trailer, causing the sedan to spin sideways. The rear of the vehicle then struck another truck trailer and a gum tree approximately twenty metres away.
Debris from the crash was scattered across the road, extending fifty metres south of the wreckage.
Despite the high-impact nature of the crash, all occupants escaped with only minor muscular injuries, which are typical in such collisions.
Parents were immediately called to the scene by the occupants, and some notified Corowa Police.
Officers who attended the scene noted the fortunate outcome, with all involved being able to walk away from the crash.
Sergeant Marshall of Corowa Police reported that the 17-year-old driver admitted to driving too fast for the road conditions.
“The 17-year-old driver will receive a traffic infringement notice for Negligent Driving,” Sergeant Marshall said.
“This is a small price to pay considering how lucky Corowa was not to have another serious car crash where young lives are lost.”
Sergeant Marshall said the incident highlights the importance of road safety education, coinciding with the upcoming "Cool Heads" driver education program.
Scheduled for May 29, this initiative is a collaboration between the Federation Council and NSW and Victoria Police, targeting senior students at Corowa High School and Rutherglen High School. The program aims to reinforce safe driving practices among young drivers.
