Art and textile enthusiasts gathered at Kyabram Town Hall Gallery on Monday, April 8, to celebrate the opening of talented quilt artist Lynette Weeks’ exhibition.

The back room of the gallery was filled, with more than 50 people gathering for the first look at the ‘Lyn Weeks — Retrospective’ exhibition.
The exhibition highlights the intricacies of contemporary quilt art and various quilting techniques, including printing digitally manipulated photographs, dying, rusting, mono-printing and painting.

Friends, family and supporters of Ms Weeks came from across Victoria for the opening.
Kyabram gallery chairperson Vicki Neele welcomed everyone into the hall and thanked visitors for travelling from far and wide to attend the exhibition.
Ms Weeks thanked friends, family and supporters for gathering to support her first solo exhibition.

Rose Thomas, a long-time friend of Ms Weeks, opened the exhibition, and gave a about moving and emotional speech about the artist and her dedication to her art.
“I see friends, and I see family, and I see fellow crotchers who will be aware of Lyn’s passion for stitching and design,” Ms Thomas said.
“How lucky we are to be able to look around and see 35-years of work – it’s just amazing.’’
Located in Ocean Grove, Ms Weeks has been producing quilt art for more than 30 years, and has built up an extensive portfolio — all of which you can view in the exhibition.
Last year, Ms Weeks’ art was featured in the exhibit ‘One Step Further’ at the Kyabram gallery, and she was delighted to be contacted to produce a solo exhibit.
“This venue is really getting a name for it’s textile exhibitions,” Ms Weeks said.
“It’s great because now these people know it’s all happening here, and it gets people up here to this wonderful space,” she said.

Ms Neele hopes the exhibition will get visitors and locals excited to visit the art gallery.
“It is fabulous that she (Weeks) has made it up here – it’s terrific, because she is a very credible artist, and she has a following, so we have lots of people coming up to see the work,” Ms Neele said.
Attendees were treated to tea, coffee, champagne and delicious sandwiches supplied by Gargarro Botanic Garden Cafe in Girgarre.
