In its 30th year, National Volunteer Week runs from May 20 to 26 and an Awards Day will be held on Sunday, June 2 at Howlong Golf Club.
Two excellent speakers have been arranged for the big day where presentations will be made to every nominated volunteer.
Federation Council residents are encouraged to nominate individuals who offer their time and skills or carry out duties to help others in the community.
The Volunteer Recognition Awards is an annual celebration where local clubs, organisations, groups or individuals can nominate volunteers to be recognized at a celebration event.
Mulwala resident Liz Seeliger, who is a member of the Federation Council’s Ageing Well Committee, will speak at the awards day which will include morning tea, a light luncheon and handing out of certificates.
Liz’s speech will include how she became involved in volunteer work. “I’m looking forward to it,” she told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“I feel honoured to have been asked, especially after last year’s speaker Robyn Moore. Robyn was amazing - absolutely fantastic.”
Liz will be most interesting too, sharing her amazing experiences around the world in her many fascinating encounters.
Also most interesting will be Edwina Hayes, Director Regional Development and CEO at Regional Development Australia Murray Region.
Edwina is a social worker, small business manager and mother from southern NSW. She creates opportunities for collective action, facilitating relationships, learning, building capacity and engaging in new ideas. The drive to improve the economic, social and environmental experience of people living in south western NSW is her motivation.
With a focus on mindfulness, vulnerability and having a go, Edwina works with entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders, connecting government, industry, business, education and training providers and community stakeholders by providing effective communications pathways and collaborative activities.
Edwina was the Regional Landcare Facilitator for the Murray Region from 2010-2018 working with community based agricultural production and natural resource management groups to engage and grow their goals and objectives.
Edwina worked in public Mental Health Service in southern NSW from 1994-2009 developing Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Telepsychiatry and Emergency Mental Health Services.
Federation Council will reallocate funding from the existing budget of $4,000 to cover the costs of the June 2 function, as decided at Federation Council’s monthly meeting on April 16 on the motion of Crs Bronwyn Thomas and Gail Law.
