“The owner has come forward and is working with council to address the problem,” Federation Council’s director planning place and sustainability Susan Appleyard said.
The action follows complaints last year and this year by nearby residents. The subject arose at council’s monthly meeting on February 27.
In recent times, council had been unable to contact the owner via traditional means and consequently erected an Order on site.
The signage ordered the owner to clean up the site to allow for a safe and healthy condition, and to be done by February 23.
“For over 15 years, council has issued notices and orders requiring the removal of overgrown vegetation,” Ms Appleyard said. “In the past, the owner of the property has complied with the orders.
“Over 2023 and 2024, numerous complaints have been received by council from adjoining land owners regarding the property.”
At its February 27 meeting, council, after going into committee, resolved to undertake the works and bill the owner accordingly.
Mayor Pat Bourke announced the resolution, saying it followed community concerns.
“It’s overgrown. A snake haven and there have been a lot of complaints from neighbours,” he said.
