The first of many commemorative services was held in Stanhope on Sunday, April 19, with the community gathering for a two-part ceremony.
The ceremony began at the war memorial, where community members witnessed the catafalque party form a guard of honour as the Ode was recited and The Last Post played, followed by a minute's silence as the flag was raised.
The second part of the service continued at the community hall, where Rushworth Concert Band performed and Stanhope RSL president Phil Chapman spoke about the 11 service personnel from Stanhope who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War II.
