Work has slowed significantly in the last month due to the adverse weather conditions and labour shortages.
The majority of the work during August involved the completion of the 200m long fibreglass stainless steel boardwalk structure across Lake Mulwala near Drain Lane.
“The contractor has indicated that the structure should be completed this week. Once the contractor has left the site council staff will construct the access ramps to the boardwalk,” Mr Butler said.
“Fencing work has been carried out along the trail in locations where steep banks are adjacent to the trail.
“Signs and markers have been ordered and a contractor engaged for their installation.”
The planned works for this month and subject to weather, available labour and contractors are:
•Constructing the access ramps to the boardwalk
•Completing the 800m of trail gravelling either side of the boardwalk.
•Constructing a new short link to the existing Mulwala Kyffins reserve trail
•Constructing 130m of trail between River and Hume St Corowa.
•Engaging a contractor to construct the concrete ramps to the road crossings.
Bitumen sealing should only be carried out during warm and dry weather. “This year the earliest commencement is likely to be early November,” Mr Butler said. “Signage will be installed when it arrives.”
The boardwalk is sure to be a significant tourism drawcard of the project. “Council looks forward with anticipation to opening the entire trail for residents and tourists to enjoy for many years to come,” Mr Butler said.
