With a refreshed format and an array of exciting offerings, this milestone edition of the Roam Rutherglen Winery Walkabout is set to leave an indelible mark on wine lovers and history alike.
In anticipation of this milestone edition, the festival has undergone a rejuvenation process, including a new name and a fresh format designed to emphasize the spirit of exploration and immersion. The reimagined festival encourages attendees to "roam" the region, providing an opportunity to linger longer, discover the hidden gems of the small yet vibrant wine region, and forge connections with winemakers and the local community.
This year's program promises an array of premium tastings, live entertainment, and unique sensory cellar door experiences, all presented by the 15 participating wineries. Festivalgoers can look forward to exploring the region's new varietals and uncovering unexpected winemaking techniques, fostering a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and artistry behind each bottle.
Chris and Robyn Pfeiffer of Pfeiffer Wines Wahgunyah expressed their excitement for the upcoming weekend.
Chris, who recently celebrated his 50th vintage, reminisced about the festival's evolution from the March Rutherglen Wine Festival to the Winery Walkabout in June, harking back to his time as the manager at Lindeman's Corowa.
Robyn shared their anticipation as they prepare for the festival, with the Pfeiffer crew buzzing with excitement.
Robyn and Chris Pfeiffer are looking forward to the golden anniversary of Roam Rutherglen Winery Walkabout with preparations underway at the popular winery this week.
"We are very excited for the 50th “golden” anniversary of the Roam Rutherglen Winery Walkabout,” she said.
“Chris and I, along with the entire Pfeiffer crew, are eagerly setting up for the weekend festivities. It's incredible to think back to the early days when Chris was one of the original winemakers during the transformation.
“The festival holds a special place in our hearts, and we can't wait to share our passion for wine, food, and music with all the visitors attending the event.”
Director of All Saints Estate Eliza Brown spoke about the significance of Roam Rutherglen for tourism in the region.
"Roam Rutherglen is a fantastic platform for wineries in the region to come together and showcase the best of local produce and wine," she said.
Ms Brown expressed her anticipation for the festival and her excitement in welcoming both locals and visitors to the region once again over the long weekend.
When asked about what visitors can expect from All Saints Estate during the 2023 Roam Rutherglen, Brown highlighted the offerings at their cellar door and dining experiences. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in complimentary wine tastings within the awe-inspiring Castle Great Hall, exploring a diverse range of wines from their renowned Durifs to luscious fortifieds. All Saints Estate also offers various dining experiences, including artisanal pizza at Bonnie and a special destination dining experience at their newly-opened restaurant, KIN.
“We have participated in Roam Rutherglen for years now, offering cellar door experiences at All Saints Estate and St Leonards Vineyard, and the festival never disappoints,” she said.
