Celebrating unsung heroes

Over the years, I have witnessed, and got to meet many caring, selfless individuals who dedicate their time and energy to volunteer work.

Volunteers are the unsung heroes who keep numerous organisations and varied groups afloat.

Many would not survive without the support of volunteers.

This edition includes the amazing dedication of my close friend and someone who is such an inspiration — Dale Wright, who has volunteered for over 40 years.

It is people like Dale who selflessly give up their time to support others.

He really is the most caring, loving and giving man who is making a profound difference to the lives of others.

I have got to experience first-hand his deep care, love and open heart, and I am so happy we get to share his volunteering journey in this edition.

Living in regional Victoria, we also get to see the power and connection of community.

We are a community that cares very deeply for each other, and I am so proud of how we have supported each other, particularly during the most challenging times.

I wish to acknowledge our amazing CFA volunteers who I got to experience their incredible dedication at the January bushfires.

They really are heroes on the ground putting their lives at risk to protect others.

As a current volunteer with Azem and People Supporting People, I am surrounded by selfless, giving people, all united by a common goal of helping others less fortunate.

I wish to also acknowledge Azem’s work supporting our amazing CFA volunteers at the recent bushfires.

He shuts his cafe, packs his van and heads out to provide meals to the firefighters and emergency services.

There are many unsung heroes and people volunteering, and for that, I say thank you.

I also encourage others to consider volunteering because your contribution can truly make a difference.
