Police spotted a silver Ford sedan being driven erratically near the intersection of Welsford and Fryers Sts at about 1.05am on Monday, December 15.
The Air Wing helped police on the ground follow the vehicle along the Midland Hwy, where it was travelling at speed and missing a tail light.
Stop sticks were successfully deployed on Fryers St, Shepparton.
The Ford continued on for a short distance before the driver lost control and hit a fire hydrant.
The 24-year-old male driver from Shepparton was not injured.
Police said he attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was quickly arrested and remains in police custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
