Veteran hay maker, Trevor Phillips, prefers German-engineered machinery and the distinctive green Fendt tractors have pride of place in his machinery shed.
His oldest model has racked up 10,000 hours and Trevor said he has not had a spanner on it.
Trevor provides hay making services across the north-east, extending as far as Dookie and Myrtleford and his stable includes seven Fendt tractors and a variety of mowers, conditioners and balers.
Trevor, the son of a contractor, started out with a baler and a borrowed tractor and gradually upgraded over the years, but decided early on he wanted a German-designed unit and was impressed with the Fendts, purchased through Bertoli Farm Machinery.
“The reliability, speed and driver comfort are good.
“Jack Collins has been my contact and I’ve found he seems to know the equipment well.
“With seasonal work you can’t afford to waste much time, so if we have a question about a part, Bertoli’s can sort it out.
“A quick response is important when you’ve got hay on the ground.”
Trevor is looking forward to this season which he believes is shaping up to be good, with the moisture in the ground.
