With the weather being back to the lovely weather we expect this time of year, the finals of the men’s pairs and ladies 100up were played on Friday, March 13.
Anne Summerill def Julie Holmquest in the 100up, 105/90.
Julie started on -5 while Anne was on -20, but that didn’t stop a well matched game.
Ernie King and Gordon Johnstone defeated Peter Smith and David Muir 19/13.
Being a final they had to play 18 ends, which was just as well as on end 15 the score was even.
For the spectators there to watch it was a very tense and great game to watch.
Congratulations to everyone that played. The only club games left to play now are the mixed pairs which the match committee have asked players to start this week please.
A brilliant opening night was had at Corowa RSL Bowls Club for the 4 week BBQ, Bar and Barefoot Bowls event.
Restricted to non-pennant players, Wednesday, March 11 saw a full green of 16 teams entered.
We had some very inventive team names, Weevils and The Grasshoppers, the Incredibowlers, Balls-up and the Bowled and Beautiful.
Winners on the opening night were The Firies, Rohan Sorensen, Wayne Schulz and Nathan Brown, with a very polished performance over their 2 games.
We also had runners-up and encouragement awards presented.
The “Whack The Jack” was a crowd favourite with Ken Maddy taking home the prize money.
Thanks to Crackerjack Real Estate for sponsoring the event, plus the boys for cooking the BBQ and the girls behind the bar. Let’s make the next 3 events just as successful.
Club members are getting out and about to various clubs in our region.
Just to name a few, Gwen Tait day at Corowa Civic, which saw our own Emily Manly in a composite team from Yackandandah win the day, well done Emily.
Also the Simply Caravan’s and Campbell Wines mixed triples day at Rutherglen Bowling Club, where Raz Porter(S), Lance Davis and Janet Davis managed to take home 2nd spot, good on them.
One of the team members was heard to say, “I thought I would have been home an hour ago, not playing in a final.”
With us supporting other clubs hopefully they will do the same for us.
One very important day we have coming up is The Lorraine Klose Open Fours on Sunday, April 19.
We still have a few spots left, so let’s see if we can have all the greens full.
With daylight saving finishing on Sunday, April 5, there may be changes to social bowls time, so please watch the notice board or Facebook for changes.
