The 22-year-old bowler clinched her first national singles title at South Perth Bowling Club, already having the championship wrapped up halfway through the two-day event earlier this month, where she won her first six matches.
The national title is Dawn’s second of 2019, with the young bowler also winning the Australian Open Pairs on the Gold Coast in June. But Hayman said her victory in Perth carries an extra level of personal magnitude.
“The Champion of Champions title feels a little more special. It’s my first national singles title, where as I played alongside a partner in the pairs championship,” she told The Free Press.
“I was happy with my performance but lost my last game. Luckily, I already had won the tournament at that stage, so it didn’t matter.”
Hayman defeated ACT’s Chloe Morrison 21-9, Western Australia’s Noelene Abe 21-15, Victoria’s Carla Krizanic 21-11, Queensland’s Katelyn Inch 21-14, Tasmanian Lynette Triffitt 21-16 and South Australia’s Renata Callisto 21-12, before falling to Darwin’s Colleen Orr 21-14 in her final match.
Hayman won the singles at home club St John’s Park, Sydney, before taking out the NSW Champion of Champions Singles to progress to the national event.
Currently ranked third in Australia, the bowler will be making her debut for the Australian Jackaroo’s on November 18 at the Multi Nations Championship, held on the Gold Coast.
Hayman then has her sights set on working towards an appearance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
“I want to represent Australia at the next Commonwealth Games – that’s my ultimate goal.
“If I keep playing the way I’m playing, I’m confident I’ll get there.”
