Practice Matches
Club Mulwala headed to Cobram Bowls Club for a practice match last Saturday, sending over 44 players who played on a very fast green.
Cobram managed to get the win by a few shots, despite Club Mulwala winning many rinks.
A BBQ and many laughs were enjoyed post-match.
This Saturday, there will be no bowls due to the AFL Grand Final.
The following Saturday, Club Mulwala will play against Berrigan Bowls Club in the last practice match before Saturday Pennant begins on 10th October.
Last Tuesday, players took to the greens for a social match in lieu of another practice match.
There was a great turnout, with full rinks on the bottom green. It was wonderful to see so many members getting ready for pennant season.
Winners were drawn randomly, and they all took home a $25 Club Mulwala voucher. Losers were also drawn randomly, and they all took home a $10 Club Mulwala voucher.
Les Spenser organised a great club raffle, with the winners enjoying 1st prize, a Rich Glen pack; 2nd prize, a bottle of Byramine Shiraz; and 3rd prize, a Thyme for Coffee voucher.

This Tuesday, the club hosted Benalla Bowls Club for a practice match. Results will be in next week’s edition.
The following two Tuesdays, the club will host intra-club practice matches.
Midweek Pennant begins on Tuesday 13th October.
Western Border Challenge
Round 3 was played at Tungamah Bowls Club.
A delicious BBQ dinner was enjoyed by the players before the match began.
Yarrawonga narrowly beat Club Mulwala.
Cobram had a convincing win against Tungamah.
The Final will be played at Cobram Bowls Club on Friday 25th September to decide who will take home the Western Border Challenge Cup for 2026.
Club Championships
The 100UP Championship is well underway.
A reminder that all Round 1 games must be completed by 25th September.
Round 2 begins on Sunday 26th September.
Ladies’ semi-finalists are Liz Murdoch versus Bev Hulm and Di Day versus Kay Smith.
Men’s games are progressing well.
Membership
Full membership remains at only $100 for the 2026/2027 season.
Membership includes a free pennant shirt for all new players, free entry to all club championship events, a complimentary presentation dinner, and plenty of laughs.

Coaching is held each Thursday from 11am to 12 noon.
Training is held each Thursday afternoon from 3pm onwards.

Wednesday Social Bowls Report
Wind gusts of up to 35 kilometres made drawing close bowls a matter of luck and guesswork for the 32 players who turned out last Wednesday, the 16th of September.
Games were played in the north/south direction and, with the absence of any significant rainfall, the greens are beginning to speed up.
Bowling their way into first place were the team of Maria Bailey and Bill Jenkins, who won first prize of $70.00 and a drink card each.
Maria and Bill’s opponents on rink 3 were Kim Silver and Simone McBain.
A warm welcome goes to Simone, who has transferred from Yarrawonga Bowls Club to YMGCR for the 2026/2027 season.
Incidentally, it is great to see Bill Jenkins back on the greens. Welcome back, Bill.
The runners-up prize was won by the team of June Hensgen and Ian Keat, who pocketed $40.00 for the day’s play.
June and Ian played Neville Coleman and Craig Jordan on rink 13.
The losing rink consolation prize of $20.00 was won by Trevor Kilpatrick and Peter Verlardo.
Trevor and Peter’s opponents on rink 10 were Rob Lidgerwood and Les Balfour.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Ian Keat, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Neville Coleman.
Friday Social Bowls Report
Just a reminder that this coming Friday, the 25th of September, is the last day of Friday Social Bowls for the 2026 Friday Social season.
In next week’s edition, a bumper report on the last day of Friday Social Bowls will be provided.
Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the results from last Friday’s Social Bowls, so the results from Friday the 18th will be provided next week.
YMGCR Opening of the Greens 2026/2027 Season
YMGCR Bowls Section declared the greens open for the 2026/2027 bowls season last Saturday, the 19th of September.
As the club champions for 2025/2026, Robyn Moore and Ian Brimblecombe were unavailable for the opening ceremony.
The Ladies’ and Men’s runners-up from last season, Lynne Baxter and Chris Horne, rolled the first two bowls for the year.
Lynne Baxter showed good form, drawing a toucher with her bowl, and Chris Horne was not too far away either.
After the opening ceremony, an intra-club practice match was held, which gave the bowlers a chance to tune up before the first rounds of pennant for the new season, which is not too far away now, with mid-week pennant commencing on Tuesday the 13th of October and weekend pennant beginning on Saturday the 10th of October.
After the bell was rung at 3.30pm, all bowlers moved into the clubhouse for an afternoon tea of finger food and desserts.
This brought to a close another successful opening day.
