Breast Cancer Trials is a leading not-for-profit research group dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for people affected by breast cancer.
Sue Oakley, Benalla Golf Club Women’s Captain, praised the club for its incredible efforts again this year.
“I’m proud to say our Pink Days are now major events in the region’s calendar,” she said.
“Breast Cancer has touched many lives of our club members. To play together with Marsha Watson and Hazel Briggs was very special for me as we are all ‘Breast Cancer Survivors’.
“To see our wider community gather in large numbers and show their support for BCTs current research was amazing”
The fundraiser held a special meaning for Benalla Golf Club members Hazel Briggs, Sue Oakley and Marsha Watson, with all three being Breast Cancer Survivors.
Last Thursday the Benalla fairways were filled with a record 90 ‘Pink Ladies’ from 12 different clubs. Players travelled from around the North East District and NSW Border to enjoy sunny skies and beautiful course conditions.
The winners of the stableford team event were Bronwyn de Pomeroy, Sue Simpson and Deb Arklay from Tocumwal. Runners up were Debra Butler, Debbie Nola and Elizabeth Mayer from Jubilee Golf Club.
The special ‘pink ball’ event was won by a Benalla team consisting of Maureen Symes, Gay Morton and Elizabeth Tallis. Nearest the pin winners were Lynda Jolly on the 3rd hole, Linda Brook on the 8th and Judith Brown on the 13th. All prizes were kindly sponsored by Marg Brown, Katrina Bailey, Barb Carroll, Rosie Foletta and Sue Oakley.
The men got involved with the pink theme for Sunday's Ambrose event, too.
Sunday’s Ambrose event was also well attended as the men joined in with the pink theme.
Men’s pairs, Women’s pairs and mixed pairs enjoyed a day of fun and donated substantial funds to this worthy cause. Fundraising by the club for Breast Cancer Trials also included the sale of raffle tickets for a wheel barrow, donated by Mitre 10, filled with donations from Benalla Golf Club members.
In addition to a record donation to BCT, the club also sold over $1500 worth of merchandise from Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The event was well attended, with women from right around the region travelling for Thursday’s stableford day.
