This week the Under 14s Cats travelled to the ‘MCG of the bush’ at Sandy Creek to take on Thurgoona in the first qualifying final.
After a nail biter against the Bulldogs last weekend, the young Cats knew a good start was essential and they didn’t disappoint, kicking three goals in quick succession thanks to Logan Field, Ben Walsh and Codie J-Wood.
The second quarter saw the Cats play one of their best quarters for the year, with slick ball movement and silky skills on display, finishing the quarter with a commanding 40-point lead.
To the Bulldogs credit they came out in the third quarter showing plenty of determination, but the Cats were able to weather the storm in a low-scoring quarter.
The last quarter was a real arm wrestle with the Bulldogs doing their best to get back in the game, kicking the first two goals of the quarter, but the Cats steadied thanks to goals from Rio Glenn and Codie J-Wood late in the quarter.
The Cats eventually ran out 31-point winners in an impressive team performance.
The team now takes on the strong Yackandandah side in the second semi-final at Sandy Creek on Saturday, August 29 at 9.15am; make sure you get up there to show your support for the team.
