The Cats went into the match with just percentage separating the two teams and expecting a physical and hotly contested game.
While Rutherglen controlled the ball early, they again failed to put it on the scoreboard, while allowing Dederang to convert their opportunities, going into the first break leading by 3 goals.
The arm wrestle continued much the same for the next two quarters with Dederang taking a 15-point lead into the last change.
The boys started well in the last quarter well but again failed to convert chances before allowing Dederang to get on top and running away with the game to win by 50 points.
Cats 5-10-40 defeated by Dederang Mt Beauty 14-6-90.

Reserves
With a rejuvenated side this week the reserves took on an equally capable Dederang team.
Right from the first bounce the match had a feel it was going to be tight all day.
Even though Rutherglen was giving themselves first use with a strong midfield it wasn’t transferring to the scoreboard.
Dederang made the most of their opportunities going into the first break with a three-goal lead.
The second quarter started much like the first with Dederang capitalising on their opportunities and Rutherglen trying hard to make a mark on the scoreboard.
Sensing the game could slip away the Rutherglen men showed what they are capable of and pounded on goals through some excellent work in the midfield and even better work from the young cats down forward in Indi Kotzur and Sam Edmondson.
This evened up the ledger going into the long break. Starting the third quarter strong the cats kept peppering at the goals to gain a 10-point lead coming into the final quarter.
Dederang didn’t make it easy as they kept the cats back men under constant pressure but the pure class of the back six kept the ball moving forward giving the team the best chance of a win.
The game became a tense 6-point margin until second game player Marcus Obrien kicked one of the most important points in the history of football.
The Cats held off further Dederang attacks to become victors for the second time this year. With the taste of a win the team is champing at the bit for this week’s game against Mitta.

With a great show of sportsmanship and respect, 8 Rutherglen boys went and swapped jumpers for a quarter and played for Dederang to help out as they had low numbers.
With his best game of the season so far, Jack Ford was strong out of the backline leading to a swift transition to the forward line where Jack Torney and Luke Nicholson kicked 6 goals each.

Well fought game today. With 3 girls out, one of our midgets stepped up to help us out and played an amazing game helping to move the ball up the middle quarter. Well done Jasmine. Shout out to Liv who played a blinder in defense and Faith who continues to improve in the goal circle. Well done to all the girls on a great game.
Award Winners: Tuppaware Drink Bottle – Faith O’Donoghue, Silverkey – Abbey Collis, Rutherglen Pizza – Olivia Williams.
MIDGETS
With cold fingers and wet noses, the girls battled well against a very strong and confident opposition. The defense held up while under enormous pressure. Great to see the girls listening and following instructions.
