A long drive to Mount Beauty on an average wet and cold day only got worse once the game started, Dederang Mt-Beauty kicked out to an early lead and maintained that momentum throughout the game to have a convincing win despite the best efforts of Sam Edmondson and Jack Andison.
The Rutherglen side’s inability to hit the scoreboard despite continued forward forays is proving the difference between wins and losses and putting pressure back onto the opposition sides.
Despite the losses mounting the Cats do take solace from the performances of Brad Andison in his first year of seniors along with the continued development of under seventeen footballers Luke Nicholson and Charlie Beattie who played their second games of senior football.
Once again Brent Flannery was solid and enjoyed the wet heavy conditions to constantly repel the oppositions advances on goal.
The highlight of the day was the three Andison lads of Brad, Jack and Caleb playing their first senior game together along with Damien “the moose” Thorpe playing his first senior game.
Next game is another trek up into the hills to take on Mitta United which is always a tough assignment.

Reserves
Once again, a vastly different side took to the wet than the side of the previous week, the return of Ollie Noble was welcome, and his first up performance will have him close to a senior appearance in his second game along with Stephen Harrison from injury making an impact in the forward line and later in the midfield.
Aaron Field was once again solid in the middle and well supported by Declan Peacock who controlled his side of the ground with plenty of run on the wing while Dale Lumby’s never say die attitude was welcome down back.
The real highlight of the day though was the return of Matt Andison, father of the three lads in the seniors, age may have slowed Matt however the football smarts can never be denied, the ability to quickly drop the knees and extract free kicks was a work of art, the pained guttural sound only adds to the performance, Joel Selwood was a mere amateur when compared to Matt.
Despite Matts best efforts the Cats went down- fitness maybe an issue.

Under 17s
First game of the alternate round for the 17s where the boys play away from the rest of the club was difficult, with two key outs to seniors and two more to injury meant a depleted side played Thurgoona for the second weekend in a row.
While successful in the first week the key outs could not be overcome despite the determined performances of Jaydon Baldwin and big unit Lenny Hill in defence.
Jack Keys was a welcome return with plenty of the ball and Rory Beattie stepped up to be a real handful for the opposition players and water carriers who felt a need to inject themselves into the game.
First year 17s players Sonny Enever-Cooper and Aidan Berriman continued their development and look at ease at the higher level, Archer Colvin also showed why he has been chosen at interleague level to repel attack upon attack.
Despite the loss the side came away with a belief that they will be a real handful at the pointy end of the year.

Under 14s
In the worst of conditions and against a larger side the 14s registered their first defeat of the season, the boys just couldn’t get their game going at any stage.
The positives were the defensive efforts of Arthur Morris, Lucas Zani and Aaron Lewis-Carmichael who gave their all.
Flynn Verhulst was once again a standout and is racking up strong performances after strong performance, the game stands still for Flynn.
Harry Chandler and Dustin Fisher were also strong with work ethics the trick to their trade.
While the result may not have been desired the takeaway from the game was beneficial and the young Cats will welcome another crack the big Dederang Mt-Beauty side.

Under 12s
Some people may say that the Mt Beauty oval is picturesque, but with cloud cover at 100m, rain coming in side-ways and the temperature in single digits you could excuse the young lads of wishing to be elsewhere.
Giving up was never the case with the boys and they played to the last minute with everything they had despite the poor conditions, the learning from the conditions will hold the group in good stead.
I’m sure the trip to Eskdale for the coming weekend for an earlier start will be welcome by all parents.

NETBALL
A Grade
Similar to most weeks the poor start placed the girls under pressure from start to finish, with more confidence in their ability to hit leads and shots the side will vastly improve. Once again small steps are the key and the A graders are continually improving.

B Grade
The girls put in an overall strong effort with contested plays the order of the day, strong flow down the court resulted in scoreboard pressure to have their best performance of the year. The improvement over the last few weeks has been a highlight and will hold the girls in a strong position in the coming weeks.

C Grade
The girls had their best game by far in breaking their best goal performance of year sending the Cats supporters into raptures, with a lot of players out the replacements gelled and played an amazing game to show the gradual improvement week by week, awards winners were hard to choose after an even performance by all.
Annabelle Hocking and Bree Fischer being the two standouts.
Under 15s
After a slow start in the first two quarters the girls picked up the pace and finished strong, the shooting of Grace and Alexandra being a highlight with their connection while Matilda and Faith worked well in the midcourt. A big well done to Maiya and Jacinta with their intercepts.

Even with the tough conditions the girls were eager to hit the court in what was a great game by both sides. Many would have lost the feeling in the small limbs however the intercepts, passing to advantage and great shooting made for an exciting game.
