The Roar women took on Twin City at their home turf in Wodonga and came out with a more-than-convincing 3-0 win.
The senior ladies had three junior debutants playing their first game for the senior side and earned good experience in the division.
With multiple players away and injured, the Roar had to rely on the reserve players to help get the 3-0 win over the line.
A brace from captain Alyssa Iannucci and a first senior goal for Theodora Miaoudis handed the ladies a much-needed three points away from home.
Roar’s women’s team is looking forward to building on that win this Sunday against Albury United.
Meanwhile, the division one men’s side had a tougher battle, finishing 3-2 against their Twin City rivals.
It was the senior men’s side’s first win of the season.
Again, the Roar came out and started well, scoring within the first 10 minutes, with Luke Goodin following up a shot from Kieran O'Donnell off the bar.
Unfortunately, a lapse of concentration midway through the half led to Twin City equalising.
Roar finished the half on top with possession, but was unable to capitalise.
The second half started much like the first, and again, Roar took the lead inside 10 minutes, through O'Donnell.
The second half saw the Roar again in control of the ball and creating some good chances.
Like the first half, against the run of play, Twin City were awarded a penalty which was dispatched to equal the game again.
The substitution of James McMaster proved to be key. With just minutes on the pitch he scored the winning goal, calmly placing his shot at the far post after a misplaced clearance.
Cobram men’s coach Bill Puckett was pleased with the result and the team's performance.
“I thought we were in control throughout the game,” he said.
Puckett said the team was building its confidence throughout the season and had more belief in themselves when they had possession.
“I think we kept the ball extremely well, and this has been the best performance this season,” Puckett said.
The Cobram coach was especially delighted with midfield and defence player Riley Deny, who he thought was best-on-ground.
Cobram’s division one women sit seventh on the ladder while their male counterparts sit sixth.
