It is anticipated that these latest members will bolster the newly promoted weekend A1 side based on their bowls performances.
Ken Widdison, with 6 Men’s Club Singles Championship wins, returns to join son Scott after a successful two-year stint with YMGCR. Ken also includes regional and state-side credits to his 30-year bowls career.
Shawn McMahon is also a successful returning bowler. Shawn has held a consistent A1 position over many years and enjoying premiership wins. He has served as VP on the O&M committee.
Stuart McNeil, relatively new to Corowa, and also an accomplished A1 bowler, rounds off these most recent membership approvals. Stuart has had affiliations with Melbourne clubs Deer Park and Port Melbourne and played with the O&M regional side in his first season with the O&M.
Scott commences his contract period this Thursday and invites all club bowlers to an informal “meet and greet” session from 4pm. Scott is keen to optimise the club’s chances of success in all grades and in particular to cementing the club’s position as serious A1 contenders.
There have been other recent incoming club transfers including Kaz Hughes, Adam Larkins and Joan Wood. Kaz returned earlier in the year after a solid season with Corowa Civic in their A2’s and after her 6th Ladies Club Singles Championship win.
Adam enjoyed a stint playing in the A2’s for Corowa Civic last season as a very promising new lead. Joan has a credentialled bowling career and will be an asset to the club.
These additional members support an already strong contingent of players, established and new. It was last season’s A2 side that was instrumental in achieving the A1 opportunity. Competition for inclusion in all sides will be healthy and strong.
