There were good results for RSL this week with three teams winning and the fourth having only a small loss.
The A2 side travelled to YMGCR and came home with a 16 shot win, retaining 1st place on the ladder.
Adam Larkins, Raz Porter, Rod Garthwaite and Andy Dickins won 28 to 13.
Maree Jones, Lex Thornton, Keith Mills and Ketch won 18 to 13.
Judy Black, Daryl Brown, Wayne Lee and Ken Widdison lost 16 to 20.
The B1 side travelled to Swanpool. The scores were tied with two ends to play but RSL held their nerve and scored two singles to win by 2 shots. This side is also in top spot on the ladder.
Dom Carroll, John Danaher, Bev Pilfoot and Peter Summerill won 21 to 16.
Brian Houlihan, Tony Coughlin, Gary Brown and Anne Summerill won 21 to 17.
Ken Mollinson, Susie Swift, Les Pilfoot and Bryan Gee lost 13 to 20.
The B2 side played Wareena Park at home and had a comfortable 36 shots win. They are in 4th place on the ladder.
Ros Lewis, John Creighton, David Lewis and Alan Holmquest won 31 to 11.
Lynne Ewison, Roly Nixon, Wendy Robb and Peter Mills lost 12 to 27.
Anne Smith, Tony Fierenzi, Sam Nixon and Laurie Way won 36 to 5.
The B3 side played Beechworth at home and lost by 15 shots. This side is in 8th place on the ladder, still looking for their first win.
Jenny Lawrence, Roseann Prentice, Robyn Fierenzi and Ross Ewison lost 15 to 23.
Pam Lee, Rhonda Clark, Joan Wood and Gary Turner lost 18 to 24.
Janet Mills, Gordon Nightingale, Rosemary Baddeley and Julie Holmquest lost 20 to 21.
Weekend Pennant Results
Last Saturday was not a good day for RSL on the greens, with 3 losses and a narrow win.
The A 1 side played Wodonga at home and lost by 12 shots, putting them in 3rd place on the ladder.
Keith Mills, Rod Garthwaite, Ken Widdison and Jordan Thornton lost 20 to 27.
Adam Larkins, Ray McLarty, Andy Dickins and Scott Widdison drew 18 all.
Judy Black, Peter Summerill, Wayne Lee and Danny Webb lost 15 to 22.
Maree Jones, Ketch, Troy Brockley and Stuart McNeill won 19 to 17.
The A4 side travelled to Swanpool, the second trip in a week for some players. It was not a good result, going down by 38 shots, putting them in 3rd place on the ladder.
Gary Turner, Brian Houlihan, Alan Holmquest and Anne Summerill won 20 to 16.
Chris Reilly, Lynne Ewison, Susie Swift and Mark Brack lost 11 to 39.
Levi Phibbs, Tony Coughlin, Les Pilfoot and Gary Brown lost 11 to 20.
Nate Jones, Darryl Brown, Lex Thornton and Raz Porter lost 18 to 23.
The B2 side played Tungamah at home and had a nail-biting 1 shot win over the ladder leaders. The B2’s are in 4th place on the ladder.
Liam Larkins, Roly Nixon, Peter Smith and Peter Mills won 21 to 20.
Jenny Lawrence, Rosemary Baddeley, Tony Townsing and Jeff Nixon lost 19 to 23.
Pam Lee, Barry Warburton, Greg Keyte and David Lewis won 20 to 16.
The B3 side travelled to Dederang and lost by 61 shots, putting them in 8th place on the ladder. It was a long bus trip home but the afternoon tea was delicious.
Rhonda Clark, Dux MacQueen, Julie Holmquest and Ross Ewison lost 13 to 33.
Roseann Prentice, Anne Smith, Wendy Robb and Laurie Way lost 8 to 40.
Ros Lewis, Janet Mills, Wally Langton and Joan Wood lost 17 to 26.
Barefoot Bowls
Barefoot Bowls is on every Thursday from 6pm. There is no charge and bookings are not required. All equipment is supplied.
Club Championships- Men’s Singles
In the Men’s Singles, the quarter final between Les Pilfoot and Jordan Thornton saw Jordon come out on top. The semi-finals were also played last week; Andy Dickins defeated Keith Mills 25 to 22 and Ken Widdison defeated Jordan Thornton 25 to 18. Andy will now play Ken in the final.
Ladies Singles
The final of the Ladies Singles was played last week between Anne Summerill and Laurie Way. Anne got off to a good start; Laurie pegged her back but couldn’t make up the difference. Anne won 25 to 18.
Christmas Lunch
Fifty members and their guests enjoyed a delicious Christmas Lunch at the Club Corowa Federation Room on Sunday. Judy Black was presented with her trophies from last season, both the Ladies Singles and the Ladies Consistency Singles. A great achievement Judy.
A presentation of flowers was also made to the current seasons Ladies Singles Champion and runner-up, Anne Summerill and Laurie Way.
There were ten lucky winners of door prizes.
Green Renovation
The Greens Committee and their willing band of helpers have been busy over the past week with the renovation of the Nixon Green. Greens Consultant, Adrian Pantling has been on hand to advise and also carry out specialist tasks. The Nixon Green will be ready for play again at the resumption of the pennant games in mid -January.
Defibrillator
Club member, Jenny Lawrence gave members a thorough demonstration on the use of the defibrillator last Thursday. This was appreciated by all in attendance.
