C Grade Div 1
Baranduda 8/205 def Corowa 10/152
Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) has slipped back into the mid-table after losing two-in-a-row for the first time this season, falling short away against Baranduda.
On turf for the first time this season, Corowa made a good start when opening quick Cody Kuschert caught the edge which was snaffled at head height by keeper Ollie Collins.
But Baranduda then combined for a 77-run second-wicket partnership with the host’s number three hitting eight boundaries, including one six, on his way to a half-century.
It was Greg Burgess who made the breakthrough courtesy of a screamer in slip by Blayre Smith, who launched across and upwards to reel in a one-hander.
Smith then claimed Baranduda’s dangerman, with the offie enticing a simple catch to mid-wicket - with Dan Osborne happy to oblige - on his way to 3/36 from eight.
Giving good support was leggie Archie Rhodes in his first spell at senior level, the junior producing eight tight overs (29 runs) and claiming his first wicket with Smith taking the catch at cover.
The wickets kept coming as Judd Kuschert threw down the stumps from point and junior Nate Kuschert claimed his second catch in two weeks, but a late run-a-ball flurry from Baranduda’s number seven took the total past 200.
Corowa had little luck in the chase as Baranduda started with a brilliant catch at gully and continued from there, claiming nine catches as the visitors were knocked over for 152.
Opener John Conroy hit seven boundaries in his 41 and got good support from Collins (24) and Karvan Silva (20).
But with Baranduda’s offie nearly claiming a hat-trick in the blustery conditions, the wickets kept falling and Corowa couldn’t go the distance, although Smith continued his good lower order form with a three-boundary 19.
A disappointing loss but Corowa will be buoyed that some batting depth is emerging which has given them a chance in big 200-plus chases.
C Grade Div 2
St Patricks 9/93 def by Corowa 3/94.
Eleven of Corowa's handsomest cricketers and Mick Collins travelled to Albury to take on their archrivals St Pats in a top of the table clash.
Unfortunately well-known pie chucker Stanton had the game ball and apparently had better things to do Saturday lunch time so when imposing captain Closter lost the toss for the second straight week and the away team were asked to have a bowl Corowa had to borrow their ball.
A mistake that would prove fatal for St Pats as Collins noticed a few young kids walking out to open the batting and demanded the new ball.
Luckily for him the wind was blowing most of his wides back onto the pitch and he managed to pick up a few poles and a run out.
He and Glenn Mcgrath clone Clarky had the pretenders 5 for 16 and the conclusion was looking foregone.
The chiselled Closter now had the luxury of standing at first slip and despite his C Grade bowling display, was able to deliver A grade chirp to help ruffle the St Pats top order, unable to contend with his witty intellect and towering presence.
Stanton finally decided to show up, and the only change was trading out the old four ’n’ twenty pies for some fresh new party pies as he delivered the same tripe.
Jase Raggett delivering a second straight week of impressive tweakers (2/29, reports were he wasn't happy at the lack of statistical evidence last week).
Young gun Rhylee Barber was back from with twisted pinky and couldn’t wait to channel his inner Closter and have a crack at the middle order.
He was caught earlier in the week drawing fake tattoos on his arms and trying to puff out his chest like his hero, and from his bowling effort it was clear he has been taking notes, a very quick spell too good for the St Pats middle order.
Not much to report on the batting innings; the boys chased them down with ease with plenty of overs and wickets to spare.
Jono Perry again proving his worth at the top of the order noodling the attack expertly through the gully region until Anic was worried about his increasing average and gave him a classic “yes, no, wait” leaving the poor guy short. Needless to say Anic had the first shout.
With Closter away at the ashes next week there will be a gapping void left in the leadership, and probably far less females interested in attending but regardless. Join next week for the most enthralling four hours of C Grade cricket in the country, bring your whites as C Div 2 could be short.
Under 16s
East Albury White 10/104 def by Corowa 9/130
Corowa’s Under 16s scraped through with a hard-fought victory against East Albury White at Alexandra Park, successfully chasing down the target of 105 in a match full of tension.
Starting the day at 2 for 23, Corowa relied on Harry Norman to build a foundation.
Norman was in exceptional form, quickly racing to 30 before a sharp direct hit resulted in a run-out, putting the first dent in the chase at 3 for 42.
The innings soon faltered further as Lenny Power (11) and Jake Witherden departed, leaving the side struggling at 5 for 56.
Callan Corcoran then played a crucial, patient hand of 14, helping to inch the total up to 83.
The chase looked firmly back on track thanks to a solid stand between Eli Lavis (21) and Aiden Wintle, who comfortably guided the score to 103.
The drama wasn't over, however. In a sudden collapse, both Lavis and Cam Abley were dismissed, leaving Corowa in desperate trouble at 8 for 103—two wickets and two runs needed.
In the end, it was Aiden Wintle (26 not out) who held his nerve, partnering with Will Forrest (13) to see the team over the line. Corowa was eventually all out for 130.
This Friday night, the side takes on Albury in a two-day clash away at Albury.

Baranduda 170 def Corowa 84.
Corowa's cutest cricket side went to Albury to take on Baranduda. They batted first and a fantastic display saw only one batsman dismissed more than once and Chad, Sam, Flynn and Charlie not dismissed at all.
Flynn the pick of the batsmen finishing on 14, Chad, Levi, Dusty and Charlie all scoring well.
Fielding and bowling improving out of sight, Seb and Charlie picking up two wickets each, but everyone bowled incredibly well and the fielding was tight.
The side were noticeably supportive of each other despite any small mistakes, a testament to their fantastic attitudes to team sports.
As always everyone had fun and cricket was the real winner, massive thanks to all parents for helping make Friday night cricket happen.

Roos selected in Country Cup squad
The North East Knights Cricket Region have announced their 13 player squads to compete at the Cricket Victoria Manhari Country Cup Carnival during December with several Corowa Cricket Club players selected.
In the Boys Under 16s, Corowa’s Lenny Power has the honour of Vice Captain with teammates Eli Lavis and Austin Ross-Anderson also selected in the side.
Both the Under 16 Boys and Under 15 Girls squads first games are against Gippsland Pride on this Sunday, December 7.
The squads then compete at the four-day carnivals, with the boys carnival hosted by the Hamilton CA and the girls carnival hosted by Cricket Albury Wodonga.
The draws can be found on PlayHQ by searching Cricket Victoria Country Cup.
North East Knights Talent Manager Rohan Larkin said that both squads have been training since July and are primed for a strong showing at the Country Cup.
"There is some outstanding talent in both squads and strong performances at the carnivals could see players selected in the Victorian Under Age Winter Training squads for next season,” Mr Larkin said.
"However, the main focus is on team success and the coaches have done a fantastic job in galvanising the players into very selfless and team orientated players".
