The weather has been really kind for bowls over the past week with several members enjoying the ideal conditions.

Last Wednesday, the field produced some telling bowls with John Andrea heading the field on a mammoth 63 points to collect the spoils on rink six ahead of club champion Graham Turner with 49 pts.
On rink four, our club president Neil Haines reigned supreme to tally 43 points and finish in front of Marie (Poss) Andrea 40.
Rink five provided another classic display from John van den Bosch as he peeled off a lazy 51 points, while John Dowie 37 and Ray Hanson 35, tried valiantly to chase him home. Bowlers enjoyed a feast of hot party pies and pasties after play.
On Saturday, all bowlers were treated to a fantastic day of sunshine and true running greens at 16 seconds. Five rinks were in operation as the scoring was kept to a moderate high to low 40s.
On rink one, Phillip Cunnington returned home in fine form to score a healthy 48 points while Kim Ray tallied 38 points for second. Anthony Westwood had the bowls on the right bias and took the rink win on 48 points with Les Brereton next best on 32 points.
Rink three provided hot competition with a number of five players competing. Scoring was a real test as John van den Bosch took home the chocolates on 32 points with John Andrea and Terrill Westwood both finishing with 29 pts apiece.
Club champion Leanne McInnes is hitting fine pre-pennant form to tally 48 points and win rink four ahead of Steve Pavone 38 points. Nat McLaughlin and Peter Egan shared third place with 17 points each.
The final rink was headed by Lady President Denise Gilmore scoring 40 points while Lois Chugg was placed second on 36.
The game of scrounge will continue while the sun is still shining and before the beginning of the 60-and-over competition.
The club will hold the Opening Day on Sunday, September 10 at 1pm with a game of ten ends followed by the popular Pig-on-the-Spit. The Opening ceremony will be held later with the roll of the Kitty and the delivery of the first bowl.
Barefoot bowlers and social bowlers are most welcome. Names to be listed for catering purposes.
On Sunday, September 17 the club will hold the first tournament of the new season with a Memorial two-bowl Mixed Triples event commencing at 1pm. Contact Russell Shawcross 0428 862 468 or Chris Stewart on chriswickstewart47@gmail.com for details.

The club offers get well wishes to John Fisher and Ian Johnson who are undergoing treatment for respective medical conditions.

Men’s five-a-side is on Wednesday, September 27 and Thursday September 28, please mark the date and get your entries in.
Echuca Bowls Club
Opening day is this Saturday, September 2 at 1pm.
President Trevor Rickard will welcome members and Life Member Don Hicks will roll the first kitty, while Club Champion Jim Ferrier will also roll.
A short game of bowls will be followed by afternoon tea. Please place your name on the list in the clubhouse and wear club uniform.
Members are asked to bring a small plate of sandwiches/cakes/slice.
Last week’s men’s jackpot pairs were attended by 44 bowlers in perfect weather and played on excellent greens.
There were five winners of both their games being John Dinsdale and Ken Main (+4), John Condon & Noel McMaster (+7), Maurie Hateley and John Brown (+13), runners-up Robert Taylor and Lal Whyte (+24) and the winners were John Elton and John Hart (+31).
Best one game went to Maurie and John with (+9). The jackpot did not go off again and is $260 tomorrow.
Saturday Social Bowls was again well attended with only one three game winner in Daryl LaVelle, Cec Moss and Ros Neil (+19) from runners-up Col Berryman, Marie Malone and Steve Campion with two wins (+7).
Men’s and Ladies Consistency Breakfast Fours sponsored by Hip Pocket and Peter Mayes Tyres are being held on Thursday, September 21 with breakfast at 8.30am followed by bowls at 9.30. Entries to Rhonda Gallagher on 0448400051.
The Mini Bingo did not go off again last week and is now $2964 this Friday at nibbles and drinks between 4-6pm.
A regular coffee and chat has been arranged for 10am on the first Thursday of the month commencing on Thursday, September 7.

Twenty players played three games of nine ends.
The winners on 36 points were Dawn Beer (Skip), Carol O’Callaghan (3rd), Julie Van Lee (2nd), and Lyn Prott (Lead).
Runners-up with 34 points were Ken Hopper (Skip), Mary Marwood (3rd), and Mary Kaine (Lead).
Third prize with 33 points went to Neil Hardy, Bev Healey, and Pat Benson.
