The Murray Felines had a successful Mother’s Day round at Barkly Park on Sunday in warm sunny conditions with the Under 14 and Under 17 teams winning their games and the Open Womens team finishing with a nail-biting draw against a defiant Wangaratta Rovers outfit. After the womens game supporters and players from both sides enjoyed a fantastic afternoon tea with over 70 raffle prizes drawn. A big thank you to Nadine Nicholson and her band of volunteers who helped make the day a special one for all the mums, players and supporters.
Under 14s
The under 14s controlled the game from the outset with cleaner ball movement and multiple forward entries which resulted in eight goals for the game. The fast-paced young Felines were too quick for the Rovers, who despite having some good ball movement themselves, could not hold back the determination of the Felines girls to win the contested ball.

Under 17s
The under 17 girls clear instruction for the game was to go out and have some fun, enjoy the game and a positive result will then follow on the scoreboard. The Felines midfield took charge from the first bounce which had Wang Rovers playing catch up defensive football from the outset. The backline was unstoppable, and the forward line worked well together all day. The third quarter was the best quarter the girls have played all season and you could see they were enjoying it. With only 15 players on the field for most of the game fatigue did play a factor in the last quarter but to their credit the Felines held on to a well-deserved 29-point win. Again, thanks to the top-age under 14 girls who once again helped the Under 17s field a full team.

Womens
The womens game was another nail-biter against Wang Rovers with a healthy crowd on the edge of their seats. Both teams play a great brand of football with plenty of movement through the midfield. The Felines and Rovers defences held strong throughout the match, and goals were hard to come by. Despite the Felines repeatedly penetrating their forward line the Wang defence proved impassable, sending the ball back on countless occasions. The Felines were able to withstand added pressure from a determined Rovers side in the last quarter to finish with a well-earned draw.
