Felines reach 100 milestone

The Murray Felines made a significant milestone during the week with the registration of their 100th female with the Murray Felines.

Club convenor Nadine Nicholson was ecstatic with the milestone, noting how much the club has grown over a short number of years.

“This is an unbelievable milestone for us as a club,” she said.

“Seven years ago, we started as a club, and we have grown tremendously since. We had four girls turn up for our first training run back seven years ago.

“To reach 100 registered players is an unbelievable achievement. Since the start of the Felines, all the coaches and committee have always strived for a culture where all females are welcome regardless of ability, a club where they can belong to and feel confident.

“To reach 100 registered players is a testimony to the culture that we have always strived for. We are the only female football club in the Indigo Shire. We attract players locally and from many other places where the girls and their parents make the commitment to drive the girls over a 100km round trip to get to training or match day.”

To continue to grow, the Felines would love Indigo Shire Council to get on board and help improve the facilities at Barkly Park.

Many other clubs such as Thurgoona and Corowa are taking advantage of the various government grants that are available to build female friendly facilities and increase female participation in sport.

There are State government grants available, and the Felines would like to implore council to get on-board with this team and help support the club with the available grant applications while they are available.
